Throughout the first year of the programme you will come for instruction at the AIG Insurance School in New York. The training programmes curriculum is developed with AIG subject matter experts and corporate training experts.
The Insurance School is responsible for:

- The execution of the training curriculum
- Monitoring the progress of each trainee
- Maintaining up-to-date records on all trainees
The school teaches more than just trainee underwriting skills, but also a broad AIG and industry knowledge that lays the foundation for a successful career, including an insight into other business areas outside of your own. You will attend the school three times across the year, for a period of approximately 2 weeks each time.
On-the-job training
The work environment is challenging, rewarding and supportive, and you will be offered on-the-job training from day one, which is;
- Co - facilitated with your Manager and undertaken alongside your Manager (or their designee or subject matter expert).
- Scheduled to provide adequate time for each training activity.
- Delivered on a regular timely basis to ensure you have the requisite skills to be an entry-level underwriter at the conclusion of the programme.
- Utilised to cover the key training elements outlined in the programme schedule.
- Structured to provide you with an opportunity to assume responsibility for your development.
Professional Training
We’ll train you in-house for skills in business, management and underwriting, but through our belief in investing in our people you’ll also have the opportunity to study towards your professional qualification, which will assist in developing your professional skills and career. In addition, there will be a financial incentive for passing your certificates.
As most of our opportunities are within underwriting, the relevant qualification is the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII). You can find out more about the formal courses and qualifications on offer at the following CII websites:
http://www.insurancecareers.cii.co.uk
http://www.cii.co.uk/knowledge
http://www.cii.co.uk/cii.aspx
Should you be placed within an opportunity with a different career track, then you will be supported to take the relevant professional qualification.
Career progression
Upon completion of the training programme, the rate in which you will progress with AIG will very much depend on your performance, talent and drive to succeed. High performers are recognised and rewarded with a challenging and successful career with the firm.
"...graduates are encouraged to undertake the professional qualification... and AIG also rewards associates for continued professional development"
